In addition to the efficiency of your HVAC system component, one of the easiest ways to increase heating and cooling capacity in your structure is to properly insulate. Historically, fiberglass and cellulose were commonly used to achieve proper amounts of insulation. Even today, they are fairly common means of achieving a barrier between interior and exterior temperature differences. But they have their drawbacks. Compaction, lack of fire retardation, allergy promotion to name a few. Spray foam is different. Depending on application, it will not compact and loose insulation value, does not harbor allergens, can also be fire prohibiting. Perhaps equally as impressive is spray foam insulations ability to stop moisture from passing between inside and outside environments.
Spray Foam Insulation is the most efficient insulation on the market today and comes in two main variations – Open cell and Closed Cell. Open cell variants are an “open cell membrane”. When open cell foam is applied, the chemical molecular formation is open – and you guessed it, closed cell is a closed cell molecular component. Closed cell is a firm, rigid material and offers approx. R-7 per inch. It is also moisture prohibitive and depending on application can effectively “encapsulate” a space. Open cell offers a lower R value of 4 and does not provide as a moisture barrier. This, however, provides an ability for open cell to more easily “fill” spaces that would otherwise be difficult to reach or fill with closed cell alone. Each application is used to achieve different goals.
ETRU specializes in the application of both forms of spray foam material in different weights as dictated by particular job specifications. Working with the homeowner, contractor or company, we will help advise and guide for the appropriate application to provide the maximum efficiency at the best value. Here are a few more reasons to consider a spray foam application from ETRU:
Energy Efficient
Compared to traditional insulation techniques, spray foam insulation is shown to provide more than a 50% increase in energy savings.
Air-Tight
This means the foam is sprayed in liquid form. The product then mixes and expands allowing the foam to seep into any nook or cranny to close off those unwanted drafts
Moisture Barrier
Foam is sprayed in liquid form which allows the product to mix, seep and expand into every nook or crevice to effectively create a sealed space.
Longer Life Span
The polymers that make up spray foam allows it to have an indefinite lifespan. Studies show that homes are still benefiting from spray foam after 20 years and will continue to do so for many, many years to come. As compared to traditional cellulose or fiberglass insulation that can compact over time and lose insulative qualities – spray foam maintains its shape and as well as its initial R value.
